How we teach in the water

How do we use THERAPEUTIC PEDAGOGY in the water?

Therapeutic pedagogy or how we teach in water is based on taking the school to the water and recreating through the aquatic environment positive educational experiences that are lived in the classroom. Working in water from the field of pedagogy involves experiencing the essence of the teaching-learning process but in a completely different environment that offers endless possibilities that expand and increase the nature of learning.

Why is a PT in water essential? What do we do?

The performance of the Therapeutic Pedagogy specialist in water will be a complement to the daily attention and training that students receive in the school classroom.

The work of the teacher in the water will follow, although with its own methodology and implementation, what is dictated by the PGA (General Classroom Programming) that sets the criteria and orientations of each school year / stage, and by the DIAC (Individual Document of Curricular Adaptation) that collects all the individual information of the student, their educational process, the adaptations they require, promotion and evaluation criteria, etc …

The work of the Therapeutic Pedagogy teacher in the sessions in the water will focus on the stimulation of the cognitive abilities of the students, with a work and a generalized vision adapted to the educational stage of the student, although with special emphasis on the processes cognitive and content derived from the instrumental areas

Ultimately, it is about taking the school to the water, and recreating, expanding and enriching through the aquatic environment positive educational experiences that are lived in the classroom. Because working in the aquatic environment from the educational field means experiencing the essence of the teaching-learning process, but in a completely different environment / habitat that offers endless possibilities that expand and increase the nature of learning.

Goals:

Get the students to discover the educational component of the aquatic environment by providing the necessary tools so that, with the help of the teacher, they make the stages of their own learning process. Always respecting the individual characteristics of each student, their motivations, interests and the level of competence of each one.

This objective also includes offering students a way to minimize behavior disorders, if they occur, and promote a taste for the aquatic environment from a more generalized perspective.

 Benefits

Education is a natural state for us. For this reason, we consider that the educational environment, the place and the environment where the teaching-learning process takes place, is probably the most important step within said educational process. Learning always comes, the environment, however, must be built, designed in such a way that it gives individualized responses to the needs of the students.

Methodology:

The transdisciplinary methodology applied in our Program is based on three key points: a joint assessment from the areas of: physiotherapy, therapeutic pedagogy, speech therapy and occupational therapy, a planning of common objectives from the 4 disciplines, being specific for each child and an elaboration of common sessions, starting from the bases of each profession and looking for a global approach of the students.

Likewise, in this methodology there is feedback / coordination that includes families, teachers, the water therapy unit (UTA) and the rest of the Poseidon Team professionals (assistants).
